Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has urged the club to spend whatever is necessary to bring in order to strengthen the side following their nightmare start to the season, the Mirror reports.

The Magpies went down 4-0 to Manchester City in their opening day and the misery is now being enhanced by the impending departure of star midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

The arrival of new Director of Football Joe Kinnear has apparently complicated matters at St James’ Park and the club have so far only managed to land the loan signing of QPR striker Loic Remy, who is currently out injured.

Manager Alan Pardew has already stated that he wants to bring in at least one more striker and some defensive cover, which will now be needed following Steven Taylor’s sending off, and Tiote has urged the club to get down to some serious business.

“Honestly, I think we need some more players in the squad, because we don’t have a big squad,” he said.

“Now we’ve got Steven Taylor out for three games and Jonas Gutierrez is injured. It’s going to be tough on us because we don’t have a big squad. I hope the chairman is going to spend money on the club.”
