Real Madrid want to sign Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Gareth Bale in time for the Welshman to make his debut for the Spanish giants against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga a week on Sunday, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.

The two parties have been locked in negotiations for the past couple of weeks now over the sale of the coveted 24-year-old, and now it is understood that those talks are about to finally come to an end with an agreement for Bale to move to the Santiago Bernabeu for a word-record fee of £103 million.

However, los Blancos are understood to be desperate for the deal to be sealed in time for the wide man to be able to make his Madrid debut against the Basques as that is a fixture that is set to be televised all around the world, with a rare midday kick-off in Spain, just the second time that the Spaniards have played a match at that time.

And that means that the match will be shown in prime-time TV slots in Asian cities such as Tokyo, Beijing and Seol, and so further increasing Madrid’s global appeal in a region of the world where they do not currently have a foothold due to the dominance of the English Premier League.
