Ajax have turned down a bid from Atletico Madrid for Tottenham and Liverpool target Toby Alderweireld, according to talkSPORT.

The Belgian defender has been linked with a whole host of clubs this summer, and has seen a great deal of interest coming from the Premier League, with the likes of Everton, Newcastle and Norwich also all thought to be contenders for his signature.

There is interest from around Europe as well, with Russian sides Zenit St Petersburg and Spartak Moscow also being mentioned, while La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid have seen an opening offer turned down for the 24-year-old.

The Dutch giants are believed to be asking for around £6.4million for the versatile defender, who is supposedly keen on joining a club that can offer him Champions League football, which may see the likes of Spurs and Liverpool miss out.

These two clubs also face a similar rejection from another Ajax star Christian Eriksen, who is likely to leave the club this summer, with Juventus looking like the favourites to land him due to their being in Europe’s top club competition this year.

Atletico are now said to be readying a second offer for Alderweireld as manager Diego Simeone looks to strengthen his squad before the end of the transfer window.
