Gunners consider move for Udinese man if Benzema deal falls through.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in Udinese’s Colombian striker Luis Muriel as a backup plan to Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, according to Sports Direct News.
News broke this morning that Arsenal were considering a surprise £40million move for the French international, as well as eyeing his Real Madrid team-mate Angel Di Maria.
Arsenal were unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real earlier in the summer, as well as missing out on Liverpool star Luis Suarez, as Arsene Wenger has prioritised new additions upfront in this transfer window.
Still, despite missing out on these big names, and with no guarantee of landing Benzema, 22-year-old Muriel looks a good prospect after impressing in Serie A last season.
The striker netted 11 times for the Italian side, and managing a further three assists. He was also voted as Young Player of the Year in Serie A for 2012, an award he shared with AC Milan starlet Stephan El Shaarawy.
His skillful play has also seen him compared with Brazilian legend Ronaldo, and he may be a cheaper option than some of the Gunners’ other targets, and would continue Arsene Wenger’s preference for nurturing promising young players.
