Clough values young midfielder highly.

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Derby County manager Nigel Clough has warned any club interested in signing starlet midfielder Will Hughes that they will have to pay a lot more than £6 million to stand a chance of landing him, Sky Sports reports.

The 18-year-old was a recent addition to the England under-21 set up and is now one of the most sought after players outside of the top flight with a host of Premier League sides vying to take him away from Pride Park.

However, despite all of the reported interest no formal bid have officially been made, but Derby are preparing themselves for a flurry of activity before the transfer window closes on September 2nd.

But Clough insisted that the player would not be going for a cut price fee by saying;  “Nobody knows what we want or what the fee is going to be come the time, because we have not got a specific valuation in mind.

“Would it be more than £6m? Yes, I think it is fair to say that.

“We just think it is going to be a very, very substantial figure to tempt him away. We’ve had no bids or contact from anybody.

“If someone comes in through the front door and makes an official enquiry or bid, we will have to react to it.

“Unless there is somebody sitting there with an awful lot of money burning a hole in their pocket I cannot see it changing.”
