QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar looks set to join Portuguese giants Benfica despite continued interest from Arsenal, the Daily Star reports.

Cesar has been linked with Arsenal for most of the summer but the Gunners have so far failed to make a bid for the 33 year old, who is set to be Brazil’s goalkeeper at next summer’s World Cup.

However, it seems as if Arsenal will miss out on yet another transfer target as Benfica look set to sign the goalkeeper within the next few days.

QPR are desperate to sell the Brazilian so that they can get him off of their wage bill following their relegation to the Championship.

Cesar is also keen on a move as he doesn’t want to be playing in English’s football second tier during a World Cup year.

This isn’t the first time that Cesar has reportedly been close to a move away from QPR, with Napoli thought to be close to agreeing a deal for the Brazilian earlier in the summer.

However, it now seems that Cesar will be leaving England and Arsenal will again have to rue a missed opportunity in the transfer market.
