Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will look to strengthen his Gunners defence with a renewed push to bring in Man City’s Micah Richards and Swansea City captain Ashley Williams according to the Daily Star.

Wenger has seen Laurent Koscielny go through the wars in his first two matches of the season, being sent off against Aston Villa and then suffer a head injury against Fenerbahce. Thomas Vermaelen is also out injured and both Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs have suffered with injuries in the past so it makes sense for the Arsenal boss to look to bring in alternatives.

Man City defender Richards, who can play at right-back and in the centre of defence, managed just seven Premier League starts last term and may be open to a fresh start that could in theory offer him a better chance of regular first team football and a possible England international team return.

Welsh international Williams has impressed in the past couple of seasons at the Liberty Stadium but could be keen on a ‘step-up’ to Arsenal though would perhaps not be a first choice when all of Wenger’s options are fit for duty.
