Liverpool could be beaten to the signing of Hellas Verona youngster Jorginho, with AC Milan and Fiorentina showing an interest in the midfielder, according to talkSPORT.

The Brazilian-born Italy Under-21 international is considered one of the brightest prospects in Serie A at the moment, having starred for Verona for the last couple of seasons in Serie B, helping them to promotion last season.

A skillful central midfield playmaker, Jorginho has been attracting attention for some time, and was linked with a move to Arsenal back in January, though Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is also an admirer, and is hoping to make him the latest addition to his talented young squad at Anfield this summer.

However, Italian giants Milan are now thought to be stepping up their interest, though they are yet to make a formal bid to Verona for the 21-year-old.

Talking about interest in his client, his agent Joao Santos is quoted as saying: “There has been contact, it’s true. But Milan has not made a deal with Hellas Verona. Contact only, but nothing concrete.”

Jorginho would be Liverpool’s fifth signing of the summer, following the additions of Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas to Rodgers’ squad, as the Reds look to establish themselves as a top four side once again, after a few disappointing years out of the Champions League places.
