White Hart Lane side close in on Roma youngster.
Tottenham are confident of winning the race to sign Roma striker Eric Lamela and will look to announce the deal next week according to Sports Direct News.
With Gareth Bale set to make his long awaited move to Real Madrid Andre Villas-Boas is looking to strengthen this attack by bringing in the 21 year old Argentine international in a move that will cost the North London club £25m.
Having lost the battle to sign Brazilian Willian, who has opted to join Chelsea, Villas-Boas turned his attention to Lamela who had something of a breakthrough season at the Stadio Olimpico last term, scoring 15 goals in 30 Serie A starts last term.
Lamela joined Roma from River Plate two years ago and after an average first campaign the cultured forward matured into an extremely accomplished performer, a player that new boss Rudi Garcia would not choose to sell so one can only imagine that the Argentine international has made it clear he is looking for a new challenge, which is perhaps not a huge surprise following his side’s sixth place finish last term that left the club without any European football whatsoever this season.
Andre Villas-Boas will be keen to further boost his strike-force having already brought in Spaniard Roberto Soldado, who has already scored three goals in two appearances for the North London club.
