Chelsea will sign veteran Anzhi Makhachkala front man Samuel Eto’o as part of their £30 million move for Willian, according to reports in the Sunday Telegraph.
The west London club are on the verge of finalising the transfer of the some-time Brazil international to Stamford Bridge following the personal intervention of Blues owner Roman Abramovich in negotiations for the purchase of the 25-year-old, who had been expected to join their city rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the start of last week.
However, having now had a change of heart and since successfully undergone a medical at Cobham and agreed personal terms with the Uefa Europa League winners, Willian will move to the Blues for a fee of £30m.
And as part of that deal, Chelsea will also land Anzhi striker Eto’0 as the big-spending Russian outfit continue their massive fire sale of their top-earning star players this summer.
Returning Blues head coach Jose Mourinho has been attempting to bring a new forward to the Bridge throughout the close-season transfer window, with the Portuguese having publicly declared his wish to land Manchester United attacker Wayne Rooney ever since he returned to the club earlier this summer.
However, with the Premier League champions having made it perfectly clear on several occasions already that the England international would not be leaving Old Trafford under any circumstances this season, Mourinho has decided to instead switch his focus towards signing Eto’o.
And the 32-year-old, who played under ‘Mou’ during their time together at Inter Milan, will arrive at Chelsea having scored an incredible 288 goals in his 543 matches in total in a top-level career spanning 15 years.
