Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Gareth Bale has agreed a stunning £97 million contract with Spanish giants Real Madrid, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The Wales international will be handed a whopping £310,000-a-week six-year deal by los Blancos, taking the total cost of his contract up to £97m across its full duration, and with the 24-year-old’s world-record transfer fee from White Hart Lane also set to cost the Liga outfit a further £86m, the total cost of bringing Bale to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer for Madrid is set to reach a staggering £183m.

However, due to the prohibitive 52 per cent tax rates in Spain for high earners, Bale will actually in effect ‘only’ be taking home £150,000 per week, making him the club’s second-highest earner now behind forward Cristiano Ronaldo, although the Portugal international is soon expected to agree a new deal himself with Madrid that will see his salary rise even higher.

And the winger, who will be handed the No 11 shirt at Madrid, should now finally be officially unveiled as a Madrid player on Tuesday after the Spaniards’ Liga fixture against Granada on Monday night, with Bale then expected to make his Real debut against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday in a mid-day kick-off.
