Jose Mourinho Backs David Moyes To Continue Manchester United Success

Chelsea manager gives backing to Ferguson replacement.Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes David Moyes will be a success in his new role as manager of Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

Moyes left Everton this summer to take the difficult job of replacing the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, after he decided to step down and retire after 25 years glory-filled with the club.

Mourinho himself was a new appointment at Chelsea this summer, returning to Stamford Bridge after six years away from the club, where he enjoyed great success in his first spell in charge.

The Portuguese coach was well known for his friendly rivalry with Ferguson in the past, and he admitted it is important for Moyes to avoid comparisons with the former United boss and to be his own man.

“There are things that we cannot change,” Mourinho said.

“David has experience and he knows that he cannot change history. The history that Sir Alex did is there and it is there forever.

“Is that a problem for David? I don’t think so. I think David doesn’t want to be compared with Sir Alex.”

Although Moyes was seen as a questionable appointment by some due to his lack of silverware at Everton, Mourinho has backed him to win plenty with United.

“I think he’s in the best moment of his career – maturity, experience, a big, big, big club, very good players. I think he’s in a fantastic position and I think he’s going to do very well,” he added.

“I hope he doesn’t win everything and he will leave something for the others, but he’s in fantastic condition.”

The loss of Ferguson and the return of Mourinho has seen Chelsea edge United as favourites for the Premier League title this season, and the two sides will meet in a crucial game at Old Trafford on Monday night.
