Arsenal are to miss out on the signing of coveted Newcastle United midfield player Yohan Cabaye with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain preparing a £17 million offer for the Frenchman, according to reports in the Metro.

The north London club caused controversy last week when lodging a £10m bid of their own for the highly rated midfield player ahead of the Magpies’ trip to take on Manchester City at Eastlands in their opening Premier League fixture of the new season.

However, that offer was immediately rejected out of hand by the Geordies, who are believed to value the 27-year-old at nearer the £20m mark, although it was still expected that the Gunners would return at some point with a second improved bid for the France international.

But Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger now looks like missing out on yet another transfer target this summer, with the Ligue 1 champions set to beat the Frenchman to the signature of Cabaye, who the Gunners are said to value at only £15m.

And with PSG boss Laurent Blanc having reportedly met with officials from the Parc de Princes earlier this week in order to request the purchase of the playmaker, who has registered 11 goals and 11 assists in his 73 games for Newcastle, Cabaye’s move to the French capital could be sealed by early next week.
