Spanish champions FC Barcelona are preparing to make a £10 million bid for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The highly rated Denmark international has been attracting interest from the Liga giants for some time now, with previous Barca head coach Tito Vilanova even trying to lure the 28-year-old to Camp Nou this time last year without any success.

And those moves by the Spaniards for the Liverpool centre back resulted in the player agreeing a contract extension to remain with the Merseysiders until June 2016, although that has apparently not stopped Barcelona from reading another bid for the coveted Dane.

However, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been insistent that Agger, who was recently announced as the club’s new vice-captain in place of the now retired Jamie Carragher, would not be allowed to leave Anfield for any price this summer, even for the lure of Catalonia.

Meanwhile, the player himself has also recently come out to publicly declare his intentions to reject any overtures that may come his way from Barcelona, stating just how much he wanted to remain with the Reds.

Agger has featured in 211 matches in total for Liverpool since joining the club from Bronby in January 2006 for £6m.
