Borussia Dortmund have ruled out selling Arsenal and Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan, according to the Metro.

The young German has been a key performer for Jurgen Klopp’s side over the last couple of years, and was one of the many stars of their sensational run to last season’s Champions League final, where he scored in the defeat to treble winners Bayern Munich.

Dortmund’s failure to win any silverware last season has seen a number of their big names linked with moves elsewhere this summer, and indeed they have already lost starlet Mario Goetze to their rivals Bayern.

However, they are keen to keep hold of Gundogan for the long term, and believe he will not be sold to Arsenal or Manchester United.

“I really think he will stay with us after 2015,” said Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke.

“This is the right club for him at this stage of his career.”

Both Arsenal and United have been targeting new midfielders for much of this summer, with Arsenal suffering injuries to Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby, and Manchester United looking for an alternative to the likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson to form a strong partnership with Michael Carrick.

Dortmund have held firm though, and also managed to keep in-demand striker Robert Lewandowski from leaving the club in this transfer window.
