Stamford Bridge side make interesting offer for Anfield star.
Chelsea are reportedly readying a surprise move to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez having seemingly given up in their pursuit Man United forward Wayne Rooney.
Sports Direct News reports that the West London side are willing to offer £30m plus the addition of Spanish international Fernando Torres in exchange for the Uruguayan striker, who is still suspended following the ten match ban he received for biting Blues defender Branislav Ivanovic.
This source believes that this offer could well be amenable to Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers will be buoyed by the fact that his side has coped admirably without Suarez during his suspension, the Merseyside club thus far having secured five wins and a draw in the six games that the former Ajax man has been unavailable for selection.
Torres himself may be keen to such a swap as his first team chances do not seem to have improved under Jose Mourinho and Liverpool’s faithful still hold their former striker in high regard.
Suarez has stated this summer that he wishes to secure a move to a club that can offer him Champions League football and though Liverpool had turned down a bid of just over £40m from Arsenal this offer from Chelsea may be seen as far more suitable.
Torres netted 81 goals in 142 appearances for Liverpool but has performed far less effectively since his £50m move to Chelsea, managing 35 goals in 133 matches for the West London club.
Though Brendan Rodgers has on the whole opted to pursue a youthful transfer policy he may feel that the inclusion of an experienced campaigner like 29 year old Torres as a good way of adding balance to his attack.
