Manchester United are preparing to offer Everton £25 million for midfielder Marouane Fellaini as manager David Moyes focuses his attention on signing a central midfielder, the Daily Mirror reports.

Moyes had originally tried to sign both Fellaini and Leighton Baines but his bid was rejected and he will now make a bid for the Belgian midfielder only.

A stand alone bid for Fellaini has a lot more chance of success, as Everton are determined to hang onto Leighton Baines, who has shown no desire to leave Goodison Park.

Everton have already lined up a replacement for Fellaini, Wigan midfielder James McCarthy.

Manager Roberto Martinez worked with McCarthy during his time with the Latics and feels the Irishman has all the necessary attributes to replace Fellaini.

Everton will make a £10 million offer for McCarthy, despite Wigan chairman Dave Whelan demanding £20 million for the midfielder.

The Toffees think that they will be successful in their £10 million bid as it will give Wigan boss Owen Coyle time to re-invest the money in his promotion chasing squad.
