Gunners make audacious bid to land playmaker from rivals.Arsenal could be readying an ambitious £35million bid for unsettled Chelsea star Juan Mata, according to Sports Direct News.
The Spaniard has been a highly influential and impressive player for Chelsea since joining the club from Valencia in 2011, when he had also been targeted by the Gunners that same summer.
However, he now seems to be out of favour with new Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who has signed both Andre Schurrle and Willian to play in his position, with Porto’s Christian Atsu possibly still to come.
This has alerted interest from the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, but it is now thought that Arsenal will step up their interest in signing the 25-year-old, whose father and agent was at the Emirates Stadium last night to watch their 2-0 win over Fenerbahce.
Chelsea are unlikely to want to sell Mata to a rival, but the Spanish international will want to be playing first-team football in the build-up to next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, as he already faces great competition for places in the vastly talented national squad.
Mata has only made one appearance for the Blues so far this season, though Mourinho has moved to deny rumours that he doesn’t feature in his first-team plans.
