Former Arsenal and Spurs defender William Gallas is in talks with Premier League new boys Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sports.

The 36-year-old is now a free agent after seeing out his contract with Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season and has been linked with a number of clubs over the course of the summer.

Queens Park Rangers had thought to be leading the charge after the club had confirmed that they were looking to bring him on board to help them climb back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking. However, there has also been significant interest from clubs in places like the United States, Australia and China.

But it is Palace who have now suddenly raced into the lead as they believe that he will opt for the chance to stay in the Premier League for one more season before heading overseas to wind down his career.

Palace boss Ian Holloway is thought to be desperate to add more top flight experience to his squad after their strength in depth was called into question after Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup shock defeat to League One side Bristol City.
