Liverpool suffered a triple injury blow against League One Notts County in the Capital One Cup at Anfield on Tuesday night, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The Merseyside giants lost defenders Kolo Toure and Aly Cissokho, as well as midfield player Joe Allen, during their 4-2 extra-time victory in the second round of the League Cup, to leave head coach Brendan Rodgers facing a potential injury crisis ahead of the club’s huge Premier League encounter with Premier League champions Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Experienced Ivory Coast international Toure was forced off during extra time with what looked like a serious looking injury, with Rodgers confirming in his post-match press conference that the 32-year-old could now be sidelined for a lengthy period of time after opening up his groin.

Meanwhile, recent new loanee Cissokho lasted barely five minutes in what was the Frenchman’s first-ever start for his new club before limping out of the action with a nasty looking gash to his ankle, although Rodgers does not believe the problem will keep the left back sidelined for too long.

And Wales international Allen, who was also starting his first game of the new season for the Reds, left the pitch near the end of full time after tweaking his hamstring and will now be assessed ahead of the visit of United.
