Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye is hoping to complete a move to Arsenal before the end of the transfer window, according to the Evening Chronicle.

The French playmaker has been the subject of much transfer speculation this summer, with the likes of Manchester United and PSG also said to be admirers of his talents.

Cabaye has been one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Lille in 2011, but could now be set to leave the club after a disappointing fight against relegation last term.

Arsenal have had an opening offer of around £10million rejected by the Magpies, but are expected to return with a higher offer closer to the club’s asking price of £20million.

Although nothing is official at the moment, it is thought that Cabaye and his representatives would prioritise a move to the Emirates Stadium over other options, and are waiting for Arsenal to make an improved bid to Newcastle for his services.

Cabaye’s desire to leave St James’ Park has seen him sit out the club’s first two matches of the season, and they seem to be resigned now to losing their star player, targeting Lyon’s Yoann Gourcuff as a possible replacement.
