Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Roma striker Erik Lamela, according to their official website.

The 21-year-old has been linked with the club for a number of weeks and has finally sealed the deal in the wake of Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid, and he is expected to be available for this weekend’s north London derby against Arsenal, though it is not yet clear whether he will actually be in the squad.

Lamela made a name for himself at Argentinian giants River Plate, for whom he made 40 appearances for before joining Roma in 2011.

Whilst at Roma he has seen himself become one of the most highly regarded attacking midfielder’s in Europe as his 21 goals in 67 appearances kept the club within the much coveted Champions League places.

He made his full international debut in May 2011 in an encounter against Paraguay, but has since gone on to collect just three caps after being a regular in the under-20 side.

Lamela will link up with Spurs in a deal worth £25.7m (30m euros) which also includes up to £4.2 million (5 million euros) in bonus payments, taking the club’s spending to nearly £85 million this summer.
