Ajax boss signs off on deal.
Tottenham Hotspur have taken a giant step towards completing the signing of Christian Eriksen after Ajax coach Frank de Boer confirmed that the switch is “as good as final”, Sky Sports reports.
The 21-year-old Danish international has been heavily linked with a move to England all summer with Spurs and Liverpool being the most likely destinations. However, it now appears that Spurs have won the race to land his signature as the side prepare for life without Gareth Bale.
The two sides are yet to seal the deal but De Boer insists the transfer will come to fruition.
“The only thing missing is the signature. The transfer of Eriksen to Tottenham is as good as final,” he said.
Eriksen has bagged 27 goals in 122 games for the Dutch giants, but his real forte has been creating goals, of which he did 24 times across all competitions last season.
He is now in the final year of his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA and it had appeared that he’d already made up his mind about leaving after the club confirmed their latest Eredivisie title in May.
Ajax are reluctantly selling him now rather than lose out completely next summer when he will be entitled to leave for free.
