Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made a surprise move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos according to El Confidencial.

Mourinho is reported to have texted the Spanish international asking if he would be interested in a move to Stamford Bridge but the 27 year old is said to have rebuffed the approach, insisting that he is happy at the Bernabeu and has no plans to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Such a move is perhaps something of a surprise as Mourinho enjoyed a frosty relationship with Ramos during his tenure as Real Madrid boss, but seemingly the Portuguese manager is still a big admirer of the adaptable defender who can play as right back or in the centre of defence.

Mourinho has a number of central defensive options with the likes on John Terry, David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic but may feel that Ramos would represent an improvement on those in his Blues armoury.

Ramos is into his ninth season at Real Madrid and has racked up over 350 appearances for Los Blancos and has three La Liga title winners medals to his name, not to mention 109 national team caps, two European Championship triumphs and of course a World Cup winner to boot.
