Manchester United are set to miss out on another midfield target this summer after Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi rejected the opportunity to move to Old Trafford, Goal.com reports.

Roma were willing to sell De Rossi to the Premier League Champions and had lined up a replacement for the experienced Italian in the form of Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan.

However, after much consideration, De Rossi decided to stay with Roma, with his decision confirmed by Garcia at a press conference.

“De Rossi is a Roma legend and wants to play for Roma,” coach Rudi Garcia told the press of the midfielder’s decision.

“We said that, after a certain point in the summer, he’d no longer be for sale [and] he is a man of his word. That date has passed and he will be with us for the entire season.”

De Rossi had been interested in leaving Roma earlier in the summer following a disappointing 2012/2013 campaign with the Italian club.

However, following talks with manager Garcia, where the new Roma boss assured De Rossi that he would have a place in the club’s first team, the midfielder decided to commit to another year in the Italian capital.

Missing out on De Rossi will be yet another blow to Manchester United boss David Moyes, who has already missed out Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara this summer.
