Arsenal have agreed a club record fee of £40m for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil according to Goal.com.

Personal terms are now being discussed between the North London club and the German international with Arsenal looking likely to beat the likes of PSG and Man United in the race to sign the 24 year old.

A deal is reportedly ‘very close to being agreed’ and will be the calibre of signing that Gunners fans have been craving for some years. Arsenal are ready to smash their current wage ceiling in order to tempt Ozil into move to the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil is due to join up with his national team colleagues ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Austria and the Faroe Islands but has been given permission to travel to London to undergo a medical today though there is a possibility that Arsenal will allow the medical to take place in Germany if necessary.

Mesut Ozil stormed off the pitch and down the tunnel after being subbed last week against Granada and wasn’t even in Carlo Ancleotti’s starting eleven for their win over Athletic Bilbao yesterday.

Arsene Wenger hasn’t spent a single penny on new additions thus far this summer, both Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini arriving on a free transfer deals, and the inclusion of Ozil alongside the club’s current creative talents like Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere is a mouth watering prospect for Arsenal supporters to consider.
