Arsenal are preparing a late bid for Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye as Arsene Wenger tries to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes, the Daily Star reports.

The Gunners have already had one £10 million bid for Cabaye rejected by Newcastle but Wenger is prepared to improve his original offer by £5 million in order to land the Frenchman.

However, it remains to be seen whether £15 million will be enough as Newcastle are reportedly demanding at least £20 million for the play maker.

Wenger will step up his attempts at signing a midfielder after Jack Wiltshere hobbled off at half time during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Arsenal are already without the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain for the long term so midfield re-enforcements will be needed if the Gunners are to build on their triumphant display against rivals Tottenham.

In addition to Cabaye, Wenger is also targeting Real Madrid’s Mesurt Ozil and Schalke’s Julien Draxler.

Wenger could also make a move for Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who could be available for as little as £6 million.
