Sunderland are close to completing the loan signing of Liverpool striker Fabio Borini, Sky Sports reports.

The Italian front-man is currently having a medical with the Black Cats after Liverpool agreed to let the 22 year old move to Sunderland on a season long loan.

Borini joined Liverpool last summer, with the Reds paying Roma £10.5 million for the striker.

The 22 year old then only scored 2 goals in 20 appearances for the Reds and has so far not featured in any of Liverpool’s games this season.

Victor Moses arrival at Anfield looked to have pushed Borini further down the pecking order at Liverpool, so the Italian has decided to try and re-start his Premier League career with Paulo Di Canio at Sunderland.

Di Canio has been keen to strengthen Sunderland’s attacking options following a disappointing start to the season for the club.

The Black Cats currently lie in 19th position in the Premier League table with just one point from three games and Di Canio will hope that the arrival of Borini on Wearside will spark his side back into life.
