Thauvin had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent days but he has now decided to join Lille’s French rivals Marseille.
Marseille have completed the £12.7 million signing of Lillie midfielder Florian Thauvin, Goal.com reports.
Thauvin is thought to be one of the best young midfielders in France and only signed for Lille in the January transfer window.
He was loaned back out to his previous club, Bastia and starred for them during the second half of the season, prompting him to try an re-negotiate his contract with Lille.
Lille refused to improve his contract and Thauvin has since been on strike at the French club, prompting Marseille to make a deadline day move for him.
“We are obviously very pleased to have found a positive outcome to these long talks with Lille,” club president Vincent Labrune told their official website.
“More importantly, we are delighted that Florian could bring our talent to our team. He has all the quality to win the hearts of our fans.”
Thauvin was one of France’s key players at the under 20 World Cup but he has yet to make an appearance for his country’s senior team.
Several Premier League clubs were thought to be interested in Thauvin, including Newcastle United but the 20 year old has decided to move Marseille and will hope to have a longer spell at his new club than he did at Lille.
