Hammers take young Spaniard on trial.

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

West Ham have taken former Barcelona youngster Cristian Herrera on trial, according to talkSPORT.

The Spanish youngster was once regarded as one of many exciting prospects coming through Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy, earning plaudits for a memorable 50-yard lob for the side’s youth team in a 7-0 win over Huesca in 2011.

However, with plenty of high class competition for places at the Nou Camp, Herrera was released by the club this summer, and will now be looking to impress West Ham manager Sam Allardyce.

As Herrera is out of contract, he is not bound by today’s transfer deadline, and will have time to earn a permanent move to Upton Park if he impresses over the coming weeks.

He joins a former team-mate of his from Barca’s youth team in moving to the Premier League this summer, with Gerard Deulofeu joining Everton on a season-long loan from the Catalan giants.

West Ham could still make more high profile signings before the end of the transfer window, and they are keen to wrap up a deal for Juventus forward Fabio Quagliarella at some point today.

Ricardo Vaz Te could also be set to leave the club, attracting interest from Crystal Palace.
