Another left-back on Manchester United’s summer wish-list has slipped away from them, as Granada’s Guilherme Siqueira has been confirmed as joining Benfica on a season-long loan, according to the Daily Express.

United had been tracking a player in that position for much of the summer, as David Moyes felt the club could could improve on current first-choice Patrice Evra, who had been linked with a move away from the club with Monaco.

However, Evra looks set to remain the club’s first choice left-back as United missed out on a couple of other targets, including Everton’s Leighton Baines and Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao, whose proposed loan move fell through late on.

Siqueira is another player that had been on Moyes’ radar, with the Granada defender also attracting interest from rivals Liverpool, though they instead signed Valencia’s Aly Cissokho on loan.

United have been criticised for their approach in this transfer window, having also missed out on several of their top midfield targets, including Thiago Alcantara and Ander Herrera.

Siqueira will now spend the season on loan in Portugal with Benfica, and it is possible that United will continue to track his progress if they continue to search for a new player in that position.
