Hull City head coach Steve Bruce is understood to be furious with West Bromwich Albion over the late collapse of the Tigers’ proposed move for Shane Long in the final hours of the transfer window, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.

The Republic of Ireland international had appeared to be on the verge of a £5m club-record moving to the KC stadium on Monday, after being flown from his country’s team base near Dublin to Leeds Bradford airport in a private jet, laid on by Hull at a cost of £10,000 to the newly-promoted Premier League club.

The 26-year-old then met with Bruce before successfully undergoing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the club. However, the Baggies decided to pull the plug on the deal after their own move to re-sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan also fell through, with the Belgian international making the move to Everton  instead.

All of which reportedly left Bruce angry with West Brom, who will now have to reintegrate Long back into the first-team fold at the Hawthorns this season, with the club understood to be preparing to offer the forward a new contract, with Long’s current deal in the Midlands due to expire next June.
