Serie A champions Juventus are interested in signing experienced Real Madrid midfield player Xabi Alonso at the end of this season, according to reports in Tuttosport.

The coveted Spain international, who is currently out of action after breaking a bone in his foot, has a contract with the Spanish giants that now only runs until June 30 2014, and so will be available to buy next summer on a free transfer if he and Madrid are unable to come to any sort of agreement about a new deal between now and then.

Both parties have been in discussions of late about extending the 31-year-old’s stay in the Spanish capital, however, so far there have been no announcements on that front, with the feeling growing around the Santiago Bernabeu that los Blancos do not want Alonso to stay at the White House beyond next year.

And it is these new developments that have put the ‘Old Lady of Italian Football’ on alert, with Juve said to be keen to find a replacement in midfield for veteran Italy international Andrea Pirlo, who by next May will have turned 35, with holding midfield player Alonso seen as the ideal man to take over from the Italian in that role in Turin going forward.
