Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski could not hide his excitement at the signing of his German international team-mate Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, according to Sky Sports.

Ozil, a £42m deadline day signing for the Gunners, has received various accolades from team mates old and new since leaving Real Madrid, and Podolski is the latest to express his joy at the 24-year-old’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

Podolski is currently out for around ten weeks with a torn hamstring, and admits he wishes he could play with Ozil straight away, as he feels the two of them playing together will “rock” Arsenal.

“Mesut and I are going to rock Arsenal,” Podolski told German newspaper Bild.

“It’s great that he’s coming – he’s a good friend and a brilliant footballer.”

The 28-year-old, who himself only joined Arsenal last summer, added that Ozil can give the Gunners something extra in attack, and hinted that he could be the missing link between the team and their long wait for silverware.

“He’s a great fit for us. We’re already playing great football; the only thing that was missing was the final punch, that element of surprise. That’s exactly what Mesut will give us,” he said.

“It is extremely sad, I would have liked to have played with Mesut straight away, not watched him from the stands. But I can’t change that, I can’t sew the muscle back together again.”

Ozil scored 27 goals in three seasons with Real Madrid, and earned himself the reputation as one of the best playmakers in the world as he helped the club win the La Liga title in 2012.

The former Werder Bremen man was reportedly also a target for Manchester United and PSG.
