Cameroon ace wasn’t on course for Italian return.

Check in to Everton vs Chelsea

The agent of Chelsea new boy Samuel Eto’o claims that he was never going to rejoin Serie A giants Inter Milan this summer from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, according to the Express.

The Italian giants had been reported to be interested in bringing their former hero back to the San Siro this summer, and even put a very lucrative offer on the table in order to tempt him back.

Manchester United were also said to be interested in the Cameroon international, who became available after Anzhi hit surprise financial problems and had to transfer-list their top-earners.

However, he instead opted to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea for a year in the hope of recreating the famous treble win the pair enjoyed whilst working together at Inter.

“Inter were never really there,” Eto’o’s agent told Italian publication Tuttosport.

“Had Samuel not signed for Chelsea then he would have probably accepted a very rich offer to go and play in Qatar.

“However, [Chelsea boss Jose] Mourinho decided to accelerate for him and we did the deal.”

Eto’o hit an impressive 33 goals in 67 appearances for Inter during his time there and Mourinho will be hoping that he can settle into Premier League life quickly having decided to let young Belgian international Romelu Lukaku join Everton on a season-long loan deal.

However, the 32-year-old undoubtedly hit the best form of his career in his time with La Liga giants Barcelona, where he won three titles and collected two Champions League winners’ medals.
