Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has had his say on his former club’s Arsenal surprise signing of Mesut Ozil and rivals Real Madrid’s world-record purchase of Gareth Bale, London24 reports.

Fabregas played for Arsenal between 2003 and 2011, going on to captain the side in his final few years at the Emirates Stadium, before returning to his boyhood club Barcelona two summers ago.

His departure left a gaping hole in Arsenal’s midfield, but fans are understandably excited at the prospect of German international Ozil playing that role for their side now, in a move that the Barca playmaker believes will be a big success.

Fabregas, who will know Ozil well from playing against him in La Liga, said: “He’s going to enjoy the Premier League a lot.

“It’s a league with a lot of space and he is a player who can kill you when he has space.

“We have already seen it at Real Madrid. He has a brilliant final pass and I think he’s going to enjoy it in the Premier League.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have replaced Ozil with the £85m signing of Bale from Tottenham, which Fabregas believes is a big risk, and commented that how he settles in could depend largely on the style of play adopted by Real manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“If they have paid it (£85m) I think they are responsible,” he explained.

“We’ll see how he adapts. I think it also depends on the kind of game Ancelotti wants to play.”

Fabregas himself was the subject of some transfer speculation this summer, with Premier League champions Manchester United known to be keen on what would be a controversial move to bring him back to English football.
