Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has revealed he made one final attempt to re-sign Wilfried Zaha on loan from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 20-year-old played a key part in Palace winning promotion to the Premier League from the Championship last season, though he agreed a deal to join Manchester United last January, spending the second half of the season at Selhurst Park on loan.

Holloway remains a big fan of the England international, and had tried several times to loan him again this season as his side face the tough challenge of surviving relegation from the top flight, but United have been keen to keep hold of the forward and see him continue his development at Old Trafford.

Still, Holloway felt it was worth trying again for Zaha after the youngster sat out United’s first three Premier League games of the season.

“I have asked about a loan for Wilf but David (Moyes) will select him at the right time,” he said.

“I asked about him in the last day of the transfer window…just in case.”

The Palace boss added that he feels Zaha has done well to choose United as his next club, and feels proud of him for what he achieved in his time with the Eagles.

“If there is a better club for him to go to I would like someone to show me,” Holloway said.

“I am delighted for him. I am so proud of him.

“I found myself giggling when Wilf did some of the things he did on the pitch. He will find his way.”

The two sides are set to meet in the Premier League this weekend at Old Trafford.
