Fiorentina join Napoli in hunt for former Liverpool star.
Fiorentina are set to join Serie A rivals Napoli in the hunt for Barcelona defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano, according to talkSPORT.
The Argentine could be interested in leaving the Nou Camp after a frustrating few years now of playing out of position for the Catalan giants, joining the club from Liverpool initially as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, but later playing most of the time at centre-back at the Nou Camp.
Mascherano was linked several times with Napoli this summer, as it was thought that with former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez taking charge of the Serie A outfit, he may look to bring his former player with him to Italy.
However, a move never materialised and the 29-year-old is now also a target for Fiorentina, who are keen to strengthen their squad and who have money to spend after selling two star players in Adem Ljajic and Stevan Jovetic this summer.
Barcelona may too be willing to let Mascherano leave as they are keen to recruit a specialist centre-back, having been linked with the likes of Chelsea’s David Luiz, Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala throughout the summer transfer window.
