Sunderland boss gets stick from Newcastle fans.Check in to Sunderland vs Arsenal
Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio was undoubtedly the star of the show during a testimonial game for Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper.
The Black Cats boss was part of a Milan XI which also included the likes of Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi that came up against Herper’s XI who were able to boast such talents like Alan Shearer, David Ginola and Les Ferdinand.
Clearly revelling in the pantomime early on, the Italian was roundly booed by the home crowd from the start, which he took well by blowing kisses to the Toon Army.
Di Canio was later put on his backside after clashing with fellow fiery character Joey Barton, to which the former Marseille man said afterward; “Fairplay to Di Canio for playing. Still a top quality player. Took the banter from the crowd in his stride. Classy guy.”
He later got his own back, though, as he put away the winning penalty of an epic shoot out to win the game for the Milan XI.
