New Everton head coach Roberto Martinez is likely to hand first-team debuts to recently-signed midfield duo Gareth Barry and James McCarthy for their televised Premier League clash against title favourites Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday evening, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The Spaniard signed the pair on transfer deadline day after seeing star man Marouane Fellaini join Premier League champions Manchester United for a fee of £27.5m, while the Toffees also managed to agree a season-long loan deal with Chelsea for imposing front-man Romelu Lukaku.

However, under the terms of that agreement, the Belgian international is unable to line up against his parent club when Jose Mourinho’s side visit Merseyside this weekend.

Meanwhile, Martinez is also set to be without the likes of injury victims Darron Gibson (knee) and defender Antolin Alcaraz (hernia) against the west Londoners, although both players are expected to be back in action shortly after returning to training this week.

And Martinez will be hoping that his new charges can register their victory since he took over from David Moyes in the Goodison hot seat when they take on the Blues, after watching Everton draw their first three fixtures of the new Premier League season.
