Midfielder still locked in negotiations.Check in to Borussia Dortmund vs Hamburger SV
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that talks over a new contract are still ongoing and that his current injury woes are not stalling the negotiations, Sky Sports reports.
The 22-year-old currently has two years left to run on his deal with the Bundesliga runners up, but he was the subject of some heavy speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal over the summer.
Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he wants the Germany international to stay and has been working hard to try and secure his long term future with the club.
Gundogan, who was a central figure in Dortmund’s 2011-12 Bundesliga triumph, told the Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper: “There is nothing new to comment on, those talks and negotiations are actually on-going. If we had anything to announce, we would reveal it.
“I am not going to make statements on the contents of those talks. Everyone has to be patient about it, just like I have to be patient in terms of my current injury.”
Gundogan has not featured this season since being forced off of Germany’s 3-3 draw with Paraguay in mid August after his back recurring back injury flared up once again.
The former Nuremberg man has made 84 appearances for the club since joining back in 2011, and he has gone on to notch ten goals.
