United target ex-Arsenal man.Check in to Manchester United vs Crystal Palace
Manchester United are planning to make a shock raid for Barcelona’s forgotten midfield anchor man Alex Song, according to the Express.
The former Arsenal man has endured a turbulent time at the Camp Nou and reports in Spain have suggested that he has emerged as a target for David Moyes once the transfer window reopens in January.
United tried to do business with Barca this summer, but saw two bids for Cesc Fabregas turned down. United also tried to pluck Thiago Alcantara but he ended up joining Bayern Munich instead.
Song joined the Spanish champions last summer for a fee of £15m, but he has so far failed to nail down a regular first team spot and was even linked with a return to Arsenal earlier in the year, but former boss Arsene Wenger brushed off the reports by saying the Cameroon international should stay put.
Song was also a mooted target for Spurs earlier this year, but a concrete offer failed to materialise.
He managed to wrack up just 36 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring one goal in the process. He was involved with just one league game so far this season and could provide the ideal solution for Moyes’ midfield problems come the winter.
