Chelsea are set to send scouts to watch exciting young England international Ross Barkley at Goodison Park today as they meet Everton in the Premier League, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old has caught the headlines recently after glowing praise from his manager Roberto Martinez, who compared him with a young Michael Ballack, who went on to represent the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea in a glittering career.

Barkley also impressed England manager Roy Hodgson, who handed him a surprise call-up t0 the senior squad for the national side’s latest round of World Cup qualifying matches.

Chelsea are now thought to be considering a January bid for the midfielder, with Jose Mourinho hinting that he is a fan of a young English player, though he did not reveal his name, and hinted that his club’s asking price could be a potential stumbling block in the deal.

Although Barkley is highly inexperienced, it is possible that he would command a fee of around £20m, and Mourinho believes the market for young English talent is a difficult one to enter, although he is keen to focus more on youth in his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

“I like a young player, a young English player,” he said. “The market is closed but I asked a question to position myself to see where he was. We are speaking about a very young player but his price was like he has 50 caps when he had none.

“The price for English players is very high, the market is very difficult.”
