New record Arsenal signing Mesut Ozil is set to be handed his Gunners debut in today’s tricky-looking Premier League trip to take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The coveted Germany international only completed his much-publicised £42.5m move from Spanish giants Real Madrid to the north Londoners in the final hours of transfer deadline day, with the 24-year-old agreeing a bumper five-year contract worth a whopping £200,000 per week with the club.

However, with the transfer having only been sealed on Sept 2, Ozil has so far barely been able to meet any of his new team-mates, let alone train with them, due to the recent World Cup qualifiers that have been taking place across the continent.

But despite the playmaker’s lack of contact with the rest of the Arsenal first-team squad, head coach Arsene Wenger is still ready to drop Ozil in at the deep end in the north-east this afternoon, especially given the fact that the Frenchman saw yet more of his players suffer injuries during the recent international break.

In particular, experienced Czech Republic international Tomas Rosicky came back to the Emirates with a knock and is now considered a major doubt for the trip to Wearside, opening up a space for Ozil to fill against the Black Cats.
