The father of Arsenal’s new club-record signing Mesut Ozil has heavily criticised his former club Real Madrid over the playmaker’s recent departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, according to reports on talkSPORT.co.uk.

The Liga giants caused shock throughout the world of football by allowing the German international to move to the Emirates in the final hours on transfer deadline day, with the north London club forking out a whopping £42.4m in order to secure the 24-year-old’s coveted signature on a bumper five-year deal worth £200,000 per week.

However, Ozil’s departure from the Spanish capital was greeted with widespread dismay amongst the player’s team-mates at Madrid, while the club’s fans were also horrified at seeing the twinkle-toed midfield creator joining the Gunners this season.

It is understood, though, that Madrid president Florentino Perez needed to raise funds to help balance the books following their recent world-record £85m purchase of Tottenham Hotspur wide-man Gareth Bale, with recently appointed Real head coach Carlo Ancelotti having reportedly been given the choice of keeping hold of either Ozil or Argentine winger Angel Di Maria.

And the Italian opted for the latter, although now Ozil’s father and agent Mustafa Ozil has launched a stinging attack on Perez, telling German sports daily Bild: “Florentino Perez is not a man of honour.

“He now wants to make Mesut the scapegoat and show me as a parent only seeking a windfall.

“If Mesut led the life that they are saying now, I wonder why he was always in the starting lineup [at Real Madrid]. Now they want to the destroy the image of Mesut because the Real Madrid supporters and some of his team-mates are mad at his sale.”
