Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head in the battle to win the signature of coveted Everton wonderkid Ross Barkley, according to exclusive reports in the Sunday Express.

The highly-rated England international turned in yet another eye-catching display for the Merseysiders as they surprisingly got the better of title favourites Chelsea 1-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

And that performance comes hot on the heels of the 19-year-old winning his first cap for his country when coming on as a second-half substitute in England’s recent 4-0 win over Moldova at Wembley Stadium in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

All of which has put both the Premier League champions and the UEFA Europa League winners on alert, with new United head coach David Moyes understood to be preparing a bid for the exciting midfield player, who has a contract on Merseyside that currently runs until June 30 2016.

Meanwhile, it is also believed that returning Blues boss Jose Mourinho has already made contact with the Toffees to inquire about Barkley’s availability, with the ‘Special One’ being told in no uncertain terms by Everton that the £20m-rated playmaker is not for sell at any price at present.
