Chelsea are interested in signing highly-rated PSV Eindhoven winger Zakaria Bakkali when the transfer window finally reopens for business at the turn of the year, according to reports in the Sun on Sunday.

The in-demand Belgium Under-21 international has been attracting the attentions of a whole host of big-name clubs from the Premier League during the recent summer transfer window, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City also understood to be keen on landing the 17-year-old.

However, it is the west London club who appear to be set to make the first move for Bakkali as soon as the window opens in January, with the Blues wanting to test the Eredivisie giants’ resolve to keep hold of their young star.

At present, Bakkali has a contract at the Philips Stadion that runs until June 30 2015, but PSV are known to be desperate to get the exciting winger to put pen to paper on a one-year extension to that deal in order to fend off interest in the player from the Premier League.

Bakkali made his PSV debut in July in a UEFA Champions League qualifier against S.V. Zulte Waregem and has since gone on to appear in five matches in total for the Dutch club so far this season, scoring four goals already, including a hat-trick in the league against NEC Nijmegen last month, which made him the youngest ever player to score a hat trick in the Dutch top flight.
