Arsenal and Tottenham target Hernanes looks increasingly likely to leave Lazio for a move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid, according to talkSPORT.

The 28-year-old is one of the most sought after talents in Europe at the moment, after a highly impressive few years in Rome with the Serie A giants, earning a reputation for his all-action midfield displays and regular wonder-goals from long range shots.

The likes of PSG, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have also been linked with Hernanes in recent times, though the Brazilian now seems likely to join Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, with talks going on between the two clubs.

The Brazilian’s contract expires in 2015, and Atletico feel they may be able to snap him up for relatively cheap, as talks with Lazio over a new deal have yet to progress anywhere.

Diego Simeone’s side are in good financial shape following the summer sale of star striker Radamel Falcao to Monaco for £51m, and will be hoping to reinvest that money into their squad, having already managed to sign David Villa and Toby Alderweireld during the summer transfer window.

It has emerged that Arsenal had Hernanes in mind as a backup plan to Mesut Ozil, though their interest may have cooled since they successfully signed the German playmaker.
