Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis is being eyed up by Serie A side Roma for a January move, according to Inside Futbol.

Gomis recently revealed he turned down a summer switch to Newcastle after refusing to take a wage-cut at St James’ Park, but he is still to agree a new deal with his current club either, meaning he could soon be on the way out.

The French international has been one of the most prolific strikers in Ligue 1 over the last few years, and has been identified as a good target for his fellow countryman Rudi Garcia, now manager of Roma, as he looks to bring in a new striker to replace the recently-departed Pablo Osvaldo.

Roma were linked with a move for another Newcastle target in the summer in Chelsea’s Demba Ba, but the Senagalese international was not allowed to leave Stamford Bridge after youngster Romelu Lukaku left the club on loan.

Newcastle may be back in for Gomis as well in January, but a move to Serie A seems more likely for the 28-year-old, leaving the Magpies to focus their attention on prolific Heereveen striker Alfed Finnbogason.

Blackpool starlet Tom Ince is also on their radar and could make the step up to the Premier League when the transfer window re-opens.
