Despite the summer transfer window having just closed for business for 2012, it will not be long before it once again reopens and you can be sure that big-spending Chelsea will be targeting a number of players at the turn of the year to help further strengthen their already powerful looking squad.

And these are five possible new recruits that returning Blues head coach Jose Mourinho would do well to consider making a move for come in January:

Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

It is hardly a secret at present that Chelsea are badly short of quality up front at Stamford Bridge, as their rare shut-out at Everton in the Premier League on Saturday clearly demonstrated, while overall so far since the self-styled ‘Special One’ made his emotional return to west London earlier this season, the Blues have found the back of the net on just four occasions in their opening four league encounters.

Mourinho tried, of course, to lure unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney away from Old Trafford during the recent summer transfer window, only to unsurprisingly fail in his long-running efforts, and so the Portuguese was forced to sign veteran Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala instead.

However, with the Blues now seemingly reliant on just Eto’o and misfiring forwards Fernando Torres and Demba Ba for goals this campaign after allowing powerful Belgium international Romelu Lukaku to join Everton on a season-long loan, you can be sure that the club will seek to add more attacking firepower up front come January.

And one striker Chelsea can sign who will not have been cup tied in Europe, which is a massive bonus, is Liverpool’s mercurial, but world-class, front man Luis Suarez, especially with the Uruguayan known to be still desperate to quit the Reds when the window reopens for a team competing in this season’s Uefa Champions League.
